There is some overlap between coaching and counselling.
Coaching is generally overtly goal oriented and has a focus on present and future experiences. A coaching approach is particularly effective when a desired change has been identified and a client would like support in undertaking action.
The literal meaning of coach – a carriage – provides an apt description for a process which, according to Wikipedia, is “used to transport people from where they are, to where they want to be.”
Coaching offers a collaborative relationship with someone who holds a positive view of human capability and sense of possibility that supports the generation of more creative thinking and better outcomes. The structure facilitates the client developing awareness and managing change that is congruent with their values and system.
